Still on Wednesday, the 26th. My perspective was enlightened once more after 10 minutes of conversing with my mentor. She asked me where I wanted to obtain my MBA degree and I answered her without thinking. She looked at me straight in the eye and gave me a lecture that made me reverse the positions of the nouns on the subject-head.

The environment is an important factor to consider if you are interested in growth. A cursory look at the Salary scale of UK Telecoms expert and their Nigerian counterparts reveals a product of 12 times difference. After analyzing and synthesizing the cost of living, tax, bills, etc, the margin between the two countries is still very huge. I remember a chat with my counterpart from Canada over a dinner at Eko Hotel where he footed the bill despite my company hosting him. When he told me his Salary and his benefits, I murdered sleep that night and actually reviewed myself and the environment in which I was born. Despite, my strong patriotism for Nigeria, I actually regretted living here.

In order to wield influence in a society, you need power; be it economical, political or social. This power you must have to influence even your own sibling or children to a good cause. I sought to have economic power to improve lives but I need to plant myself in the best environment to achieve this. If Sokoto becomes the environment to fulfill this cause, then I must use my Shokoto (your resources) to get there.

How does one identify with an environment and also leave that environment? This was my cross road when I heard the Nigerian Music Award would be hosted in UK. Is the aim for hosting a Nigerian thing in UK valid? What does this say about our cultural heritage? Does this have anything to do with our self-esteem? Why not host it in Nigeria? I believe these are questions only the organizers can answer. As I sought to climb the ladder of influence, I wonder if I am not part of this syndrome.
This is a sequel to SOKOTO IN SHOKOTO

Hello Dipo, how are you doing? I think I share the same view with you regarding the Shokoto in Sokoto syndrome. I think it is just a Nigerian thing. For me, I hold a B.Sc.(Second Class Upper) degree in Chemical Engineering from a State University and as it is I have made up my mind that my Post-graduate degree just has to be outside this country. I know I can deliver if given the opportuinity but Nigeria as it is, has not provided me with the right climate to do this. But I see Nigeria as a country with opportuinities so wherever I find myself outside the shores of our great Nigeria I am definitely coming back to utilise my acquired knowledge, experience and resources to make money and also make Nigeria.
