Just Musing.....

Average time to read3:21 minutes aprox.

Today is another weekend, Dec 1st and also the 6th month anniversary of DIPO TEPEDE.POeT and you know I always celebrate my anniversaries with thanks giving, first of all to the Creator of the Universe, the Almighty God who has constantly inspired me, nurtured me and convict me when I derail from course. Secondly, to my cute, sweet and darling wife who has supported me all through and shown great understanding. Then to my commentators, readers and fellow bloggers a like; I want to say a big thank you. As I rewind my mind to 6 month ago, the uncertainty that gripped me as I paid my N4, 600 ($35) to the Naira Host Agent, was quite embarrassing when I look at the ROI today. This has further strengthened my resolve that FEAR is False Expectations Appearing Real.

I keep wondering why I was afraid to get into this project. Could it be the money? Well, I doubt it because I am always ready to lose money when undergoing a project. Could it be combining it with my daily work which I also love doing? Well, I think I should take a pause here and think through this one; not really, because I am a «multi-tasker» by nature. Then what could it be? Could it be the fear of failure and the uncertainty that surrounded the project? Yes, that's exactly what it was; the fear that I would fail the project. The truth of the matter is no matter the amount of books, coaching and training, I have gone through on Failure, I hated failing and I would almost do anything to prevent failure. But is this a valid point; not necessarily because the prerequisite for Success is Failure.

When you hear someone is experienced in a field or something, it simply means the person has failed so many times in that field and has a great understanding of the paths that would lead to failure and the path that would lead to success. But do you really need to fail to succeed? Wow that's a big question especially for someone who is taking a one shot at a particular goal. Let me give you an example; a friend of mine called me a week ago, telling me about participating in a Reality Show about Business Practices which is expected to kick off today on major TV and Cable station. If he fails, he would never go into reality show again because age is not on his side and he really needed to win this one. So how do I begin to answer the failure as prerequisite to success thingy? Well, the truth be told, he has been undergoing reality shows since the day he was born and how well he performs is just the amount of failures he experienced and learnt from in areas like interpersonal, business, problem solving and presentation arena.

Wow, my theory is still holding especially when you learn from it. I am sure my dear readers would be thinking of people who did not fail and are succeeding. I think I would laugh at that because every successful person has experience failure in one way or the other. Trust me, it may not be on the same field he/she is succeeding in at the moment; it may be a lesson he learnt from another field entirely and he/she is applying it on his/her successful field.

Then before I eventually term my theory a law, I have to verify it with the Holy Bible. The Old Testament supports my theory because all the patriarchs were bundle of failures before they eventually succeeded but the New Testament also shows guys who have failed like Paul, Peter and John the Baptist. The exception is Jesus Christ (and this is because I don't have a full account of his first 30 years on earth). Who knows, he may have failed then, so my theory still holds sway.

So where did all these musing emanate from. Ok, this site is six month old and it has been successful. Yep, it is very successful when you take a look at the stats and very successful when you take a look at my personal leanings. I have more than1900% return on my initial investment, I have a unique visitor of 41, 561 hits, and a page load of 154, 899 as of my writing this article. I have met so many wonderful people through this site (Believe me, they are incredibly unusual). I have been approached by Companies who wants me to provide contents, approached by a lady who wants me to go on TV and recently approached by a budding Film Producer who wants to produce my unfinished novel-Memoirs of a Virgin. There have been other approaches and all because of this site, I was afraid of startin 6 months ago. To tell you the truth, all glory and honor belong to the almighty God.

Well, are you afraid of starting that project? I think you have to re-read this article again!

Happy Anniversary Dipo!

I must say that in the past couple of months discovering your site and someothers has been a blast! your articles and talks have been an encouragement...You are part of the people that have
challenged me to step out...not just soon, but NOW!
I'm a person that hates to fail...so sometimes we stay in our comfort zone, but to get to the next level of us we have to «walk on the water» as I like to say..do the thing that you are most afraid of....with God on your side not is impossible (dont just say it to your head) but let is be brunt in you heart!
You inspire and encourage me .....so keep on doing what your doing, and then some.

Stay empowered to succeed.
