1st Quarter Musing

Average time to read3:37 minutes aprox.

2683076467_862ca24b75_mOkay, the first quarter of the year has ended and it is good to do a general appraisal of one's activities and project for the next quarter. This first quarter has been very enlightening to me; the rise of dollars to the naira and the container blockage at the port hindered me from importation but I was able to dig within myself to engage in other forms of commercial activities. I have been teased many times for dipping my hands into so many businesses and I could understand how this perception may come about.

The Maginot Line

Average time to read4:13 minutes aprox.

3189613440_952957ee86_mBefore the Second World War, the French sensed an attack from the Germans after their huge loss in the First War, so they constructed the Maginot line - a series of expensive super-forts along their eastern border with Germany. They reckoned the forts were so strong that they would prevent any future German army from attacking. This looked quite sensible until Adolf Hitler blasted from Belgium, which is north of France, and Paris was taken in weeks.

Let's talk GOLD

Average time to read4:42 minutes aprox.

3100840074_297047f5ee_mBernie Madoff has pled guilty last week to the 11 count charges of fraud that was levied against him. For those who have been following the story in the media, this has been regarded as the largest fraud ever committed by a single person; about 65 billion USD of investors' funds gone. You could literarily see the anguish on the faces of the investors (like the picture above); the betrayal, the trust and worst of all, their life savings; all down the drain. There was a sudden reversal in the net worth of most of the investors; a 70year old man who retired as an executive in a Multinational company found himself working in a fast food restaurant; charity organizations lost all their research funds and credibility; examples are numerous.

Rising DOLLAR…

Average time to read4:37 minutes aprox.

3011456326_4cdd9b5f8a_mThe US dollar is rising against the naira at an alarming rate; at the moment, the black market rate is about 188 naira to a dollar. This is getting a bit worrisome for an importer like me who depends on buying dollars to make procurements, ship and also clear consignments. Would this trend ever reverse itself?  I have taken time to analyze the dire situation and I realize that this negative effect may be detriment to the workforce on all levels.

Wealth Transfer

Average time to read2:40 minutes aprox.

3302884799_8b9f313dce_mSlumdog Millionaire may have conquered this year's Academy Award with 8 Oscars including the prestigious Best Picture Award but the rag-to-riches plot may have hit some nuggets that most people fail to adhere to; always follow LOVE and your experiences along the way will help you win the challenges of any opportunity that opens up to you. This is the pattern I have observed in every autobiography of wealthy men I have read.

Dollar Rain in VIETNAM

Average time to read4:31 minutes aprox.

2892058635_da341cba5fThere is United State Dollars literarily falling in the streets of Ho Chi Minh City (the commercial point of Vietnam) and only those that can SEE will grab it with both hands. Whenever I recognize that someone is financially wealthier than I am, I know that there is something this person knows that I don't. I am humble enough to want to find out but I realize people guard their economic secret and hold them close to their chest. However, I will do the opposite because I believe the sky is big enough for everybody.
