The week after I finished my MBA program with a distinction, my wife did something that actually opened my eyes to the power of having an MBA; she included MBA to my old CV and sent it to one of the telecoms companies in Nigeria and I was called for an interview a week after. I actually did not attend the interview but I was glad to know that I could easily pick up a job if I wanted to. So I started sowing my CVs in most of the Middle East recruitment agency for contract work and I was amazed at how quickly I was contacted; I got two offers from Saudi Arabia and one from Oman but they wanted 2 years renewable contract while I only needed 3 month. MBA is a professional course which means you cannot build on it with M.phil or PHD; it is one of the most expensive formal education programs on earth. The funny part about these schools is that they do not guarantee a very high paying job because most of the graduates stick to working in US or UK. The offer I got from the company in Jeddah is far higher than the average salary of an average Stanford MBA graduate and I finished my MBA totally tuition-free.

 

Let's be frank, it's all about the money at the end of the day and MBA is MBA. But in coming to a country like Nigeria, the perspective is quite different; a foreign MBA commands more respect and thus more money than an MBA from a Nigerian University. It's funny that even the Nigerian universities when recruiting discriminate against their own degree when compared to a degree from Europe. It's good to know that I am wanted but it's better to bring more people to my status.
